Legal but Lethal is the brainchild of two car / drawing / any other fun stuff enthusiasts who have been crafting ideas and hunting for scale models to be used as props since early 2007.
Somewhat similar to comic artist Dave McKean, who is known for combining computer-generated images and paper for his work – most notably the covers of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series – we initially aimed to combine digital background drawings together with camera shots of our props to create racing sequences with as much realism and detail to the cars. Most of the scale models used are by Hot Wheels, with a few other Matchbox and Tomica cars. However, due to the lack of skill at using a tablet, we have decided to take photographs of the locations as well and then digitally editing it to create a more comic feel.
Originally titled “Need for Speed : The Comic“, the project’s name was changed on 18th December 2007 in view of copyright issues since “Need for Speed” is a registered trademark of Electronic Arts. This project is not a commerical one and is no way related to the Need for Speed developers or EA. However if there are plans to make this into a commerical publication we can be contacted at rottersint@gmail.com.
Check this blog for updates to the project and possibly the introduction or first page of our comic by December 2008. If you have any suggestions or feedback for us you may wish to drop us a comment on our post or the box below.
